Community-Driven Change: The Story of IMPACT Pratt

By Kimberly DeClue July 1, 2025

A Vision for Connection and Contribution

“Impact” refers to cause a significant effect, influence, or change in a situation, person, or entity. It implies taking actions that are meaningful and produce noticeable results. IMPACT, Investing in Meaningful Projects And Community togetherness, began as a heartfelt conversation between three women—Brenna, Kelsey, and Sarah—seeking deeper meaning and connection in their lives and their community. Recognizing a gap in Pratt for a space that welcomed newcomers and inspired local involvement, they formed a group centered around impactful community service and inclusivity. Their goal? To foster belonging, beautify the city, and energize its residents through hands-on, sustainable projects and connections.

Building a Community Hub

The group’s mission, to enhance Pratt’s small-town charm through beautification, revitalization, and community connection. They hope to help enhance Pratt into a place people not only live in, but fall in love with—whether they're driving through or choosing to make it home. Unlike some organizations that cater to niche causes, IMPACT is designed to support broader civic improvement and community togetherness.

The First Project: An Interactive Mural at Merchants Park

The kickoff project for IMPACT is a selfie-style interactive mural to be painted inside the Merchants Park band shell in downtown Pratt. With its high foot traffic and central location near schools, the library, the theater, and the fitness center, the mural is set to become a vibrant backdrop for engagement. The mural will incorporate ideas and artwork from the entire community, creating a sense of ownership and discouraging vandalism. To enhance the visitor experience, the mural will eventually include a QR code directing people to places to eat, shop, and explore in Pratt. This initiative not only supports local businesses but helps boost tourism and community pride.

Funding with Intention

The mural project has submitted a grant through the Kansas Office of Rural Prosperity, part of the Kansas Department of Commerce. To apply for these grants, you must be a nonprofit organization so IMPACT partnered with the South Central Community Foundation as their fiscal sponsor. Their goal is to keep IMPACT dues-free, non-burdensome to the city, and grant-driven. They also welcome all kinds of donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations, including time, talents and of course funds.

Beyond Art: Trash Pickups and Civic Engagement

While the mural marks the beginning, IMPACT’s goals are far-reaching. They’re planning organized trash pickups in high-traffic areas like Fincham Road and the Sports Complex—spots that visitors and tournament guests often see. Their vision also includes improving signage at city entrances and brainstorming ways to make Pratt’s first impressions more impactful.

Inclusive and Intergenerational

A major pillar of IMPACT’s vision is inclusivity. They encourage involvement from all age groups and backgrounds—whether it’s kids painting a mural, retirees helping with cleanup, or local creatives contributing design skills. They emphasize that everyone has a talent to offer, whether it’s grant writing, marketing, painting, or organizing events.

Looking Ahead: Long-Term Sustainability

IMPACT isn’t just about one or two projects. The founders are committed to building a legacy of service and civic pride. They plan to roll out newsletters, build social media presence, and maintain continuous engagement with their members and the broader community. There are no membership dues, only a shared commitment to make a difference.

How to Get Involved

Community members can get in touch via email at impact@gmail.com. Whether you’re interested in donating, volunteering, designing, or simply participating, IMPACT is eager to hear from you. As Kelsey, Brenna, and Sarah put it, this isn’t about them—it’s about building something lasting that the whole town can take pride in. With passion, purpose, and plenty of positivity, IMPACT Pratt is ready to make a difference.
